The town is known for its small local shops, good eateries and cozy bars, but perhaps most of all; to host the annual “Luna Mora” festival, where the city's history and heritage are celebrated in the second or third week of September. Here, Guaro transforms into one of southern Spain's most visited whitewashed pueblos, and thousands of candles light up the evening, to the sound of the big and small musicians passing by to play. A medieval-inspired market dominates the city's streets, where local merchants dressed in historic Moorish costumes do their part to bring home an authentic piece of Andalusian crafts, while belly dancers sway around to the sound of Arabic music.

The surrounding countryside is rich in almond trees, which helps maintain the village's economy, and has given the village the nickname “The Natural Almond Paradise”. There are also a wealth of golf clubs on the way from here and down to the kiss, as well as plenty of opportunities to explore the countryside in and around the natural park Sierra de las Nieves, where you can participate in safari jeep excursions, or follow some of the fantastic hiking routes on foot, including climbing to the top of Marbella's iconic La Concha. Guaro benefits from the subtropical Mediterranean climate, which has hot summers and mild winters, due to its secluded location behind a belt of mountains and away from the sea.
